If you’re buying or selling real estate in the Chester New York or surrounding Orange Country areas, you know that there are a million things to do to prepare.  To help you get started and to allow you to enjoy a successful move, The Green Team has compiled this easy to use ‘to do’ checklist. 

To help you stay organized, just print off this handy list, check off the items as they are completed and before you know it, you’ll be settling into your newly purchased Chester New York Real Estate!

One Month Before Your Move (Date:________________)

• Clean out your closets, basement and garage.  Donate unused items to your favorite charity or have a yard sale to help pay for some of your move.
• Purchase and assemble packing supplies: tape, boxes, tissue paper, bubble wrap, markers.
• If you have a lot of stuff to move, start packing items of no use prior to your move.  For example, photo albums, books, seasonal decorations.
• If you are packing items that will go into storage, make itemized lists of each box and its contents.
• Start a log of moving expenses and keep all your move related receipts. (Some items may be tax deductible).
• Find a reputable mover.  Ask for advice from friends and family.  Get estimates from at least two moving companies servicing real estate in Chester, NY.  Include their written commitment of pickup and delivery dates.  Ask for references and be sure to check them.
• Check the insurance limits with your chosen mover and determine whether it covers replacement costs.  Purchase additional insurance if you need it.

• Arrange for disconnection or transfer of your utilities (gas, electricity, cable, phone, security)
• Contact the post office to have your mail forwarded.

• Stop or transfer newspaper and other home deliveries.

Moving Day! (Date:________________)

• Keep phone connected or have a cell phone in case you need to contact your movers etc.
• Carefully supervise the move.  Make sure your instructions are understood and that boxes are delivered to the correct rooms.
• Check all the rooms and closets to make sure you haven’t left anything behind.
• Turn down the thermostat.
• Lock up and leave labeled keys with the new owners or real estate agent.
